I - DATA APPENDIX

COVID-19 losses per geography and risk class

“The COVID-19 catastrophe is a 'live event' with losses still accumulating. The current best estimate is that losses will be in the range of USD 40-60 billion. However, some carriers are more cautious and believe that when all losses are fully formed the insured industry loss could be closer to USD 100 billion. Because some of the losses are subject to litigation that may take many years to settle, (re)insurers are naturally careful about making very specific commentary and it is probable that the final loss will not be known for possibly five years.”
